Portraits from a scandal

Exhibit A: Sen. George ‘Macaca’ Allen has this portrait to narcissism hanging in his living room (via Wonkette):

But check out the TV in the corner:

Subtle, na?

Exhibit B: Long before Macacagate, a certain Mutineer had her photo taken with the local senator:

Had she only known, I trust her other hand would’ve done something Amadou Diallo-like to Allen’s out port.

Immigration is a source of pride and not a punchline

– Sen. Kerry

I suppose this is what happens to the son of a coach whose team is still called the Redskins:

American Indians have filed a new legal challenge to the Washington Redskins’ trademark, contending the NFL team’s name is racially offensive… It states that the Redskins trademark should be canceled on grounds that it is a “pejorative, derogatory, denigrating, offensive, scandalous, contemptuous, disreputable, disparaging and racist designation for a Native American person.” [Link]

Sen. John Kerry reportedly smacked Allen at an Aug. 20 Indian-American conference:

Welcome to a new day where we refuse to accept insults made about Indian-Americans that, if we heard them about African Americans or Jews or Hispanics, would be the end of a political career. Welcome to our America, where immigration is a source of pride and not a punchline

It’s no accident that the first words of our first declaration as a free nation were “We hold these truths to be self-evident” [that all men are created equal...] [Link]
