Are you talkin’ to me?

At the IAAC film fest, the Irish-Indian animated short called Horn Ok Please looks adorable:

Horn Ok Please is the story of a momentous day in the life of a Bombay taxi driver named Karma. Karma’s dream is to earn enough rupees to buy his own taxi and be free of the hefty taxi rental fee he must pay every day. After collecting a multitude of curious fares, Karma’s dream is within reach.

However, the exasperated passengers, the heat and the traffic are taking their toll. Karma, who relieves his stress by honking his horn, is showing signs of weakness. He begins to hallucinate at the wheel; his customers metamorphose into animals and his dream car appears to him in a vision.

Just then, Karma’s taxi crashes into the back of a lorry bearing the sign HORN OK PLEASE. The fine and damage caused cost him almost all of his day’s earnings. With the few remaining rupees, he buys some sweets for his little friend Arun. Undeterred they wake up the next morning to pursue the dream once more. [Link]

The Indian animation director discusses making the claymation flick in Ireland:

In 2003, my wife Suranjana and I setup our own animation studio: Vaibhav Studios… Last year, Joel Simon, Director, Flickerpix Ltd., a clay animation studio in Belfast… contacted us for his next clay animation short film… He had seen our work and wanted us to direct the animation…

Although we had produced animation films for clients abroad, we had always carried out the production in India. This would be a new experience for us… Suranjana and I went there for a period of 3 months (we didn’t want to be absent from Mumbai for longer than that!). [Link]

They also got a quick tour of Aardman Animations, makers of Wallace & Gromit.

It’s playing at a film fest in November, so I assume it’s been done for some time.
