iWait for the next iPhone
I critiqued the overly vegan iPhone on the Guardian blog today on the grounds that Steve Jobs renounced more than was called for:
The iPhone is as much a letdown for this longtime Apple fan as the man hands of Seinfeld’s hot date. I was primed to love this shiny precious, to gently nudge its ovoid edges into my technological nest… [But] the iPhone’s design is a triumph of flashiness over usability…
The iPhone designers deserve kudos for reimagining the smart phone for those handicapped by loss of stylus. We smartphone users roam our cities substituting a finger for a point, a pose much in vogue when commenting on blogs…

Manish, oh prodigal son, come back, all is forgiven — Verizon Wireless will take you back!
Exactly the article I was looking for last week Manish, thanks re..great blog entry Manish , very informative and very well written..
I was asking all my girlfriends advice on what kind of cell phone I should buy and which is the best last two weeks.
my 4 year old cell phone battery is not working now and the battery is outdated and cant buy one, so I spent last weekend searching for the best new cell phone I should buy..it is like what seinfeld says u go to starbucks u have 101 choices to confuse u and make u think and think..I had the same experience.
.went to att, verizon, sprint cell phone shops/dealers..it was confusing.
I almost bought iphone. I thought it was a cool hitech phone with cool stuff, but did not buy it because it didnot have the sim card option. It only works in US and att has no unlocked phones where u can change sim cards..too bad..even hitech newly designed phones are no good for international customers.
Iam looking for a phone which works here and in India too as I am not sure I will be here all the time for the next two years to sign a contract and as I keep traveling to India often for business. I always buy temporary new phones in India every year and donate it as I cannot use in US anyway. so I thought I will buy a phone with sim card so that I can use the same phone in US and India, unlock it in india and change sim cards.
verizon had a blackberry which is international but then they will charge more than a dollar per minute if I make calls in India even if I change sim card in India, which means I will be charged in indian rupees with indian sim card at the same time have to pay verizon too for international calls if I use the same blackberry in India.what a waste.
Sprint has international phone options too which work in both countries like that but then I have to keep paying my sprint monthly bill in US even when Iam in India.
someone suggested I should buy an unlocked phone on ebay. Nokia ,GSM have some with international dual sim cards.I have to read about them. I was exhausted last weekend hunting for a phone that will work in India and here by just changing sim cards.so temporarily I ended up buying this pay as u use second phone for 20 dollars until I decide on which phone to buy. I spent almost two weekends on this stuff and still cannot decide which cell phone to buy..
too many options, too confusing for me…
Do u know of any cell phones Manish which will work here and in India by unlocking and changing sim cards, where I dont need to pay bills in both countries but can use phone in whichever country I live in and pay only bills in that country and not pay bills in both country. If you let me know , that will be of great help Manish..
The Nokia 6020 works in India and the U.S. It’s a pretty basic phone though.
thanks so much Manish, I will read about Nokia 6020 phone. I want a phone with internet and everything which works all over the world like a Iphone with dual sim card system. May be that is the next generation Iphone I am waiting for like u with better quality.
And it even works on the Columbia campus and in East Village! :)
What a heartfelt critique of the cry-phone ;)
what a neat way to take revenge on mean friends, text/mail them such stuff and let them have fun decoding :-D

thanks a lot Manish, u made my life easy..looks like this phone has a lot of cool modern features too like email and all that..and has a sim card system. I need to read more and then buy it..thanks re.

true neat fun way to play games with people..my 17 and 19yr old nephews send me emails often.. cryptic text message type mixing hindi, english, telugu, I always take so much time to understand what they are trying to tell me..hope my naughty nephews are not pulling leg and playing games with their outdated aunt who cannot decode anything :-)
hm. I noticed you’re using a canadian site. didnt realize you’re from here. In case it helps, i have a blackberry from rogers and it works in india, north am and europe. the plan from bell doesnt. it sucks like an elephant.
I live in US, sorry for the misunderstanding, I didnot even realise it is a canada nokia site, I just got so busy reading about the features , did not even realise where the link was from..blackberry from verizon works in India too but the calls are dollar and fifty cents in India, u need to use international roaming… If u have sim card system u dont need to use international roam, all u do is change the sym card and use it anywhere.
