More fun than a lifafa of macacas (updated)

Wonkette whips up a retro-themed Mysterious Macaca poster. Here’s the etymology of the monkey insult which among white supremacists, Latinos and Europeans approximates ‘dirty Arab.’ Background on the macaca hungama here, a slur directed to an Indian-American campaign volunteer for a political opponent. The senator’s non-apology here.

This simian slur is common enough in France, but not in America. A thought experiment: could a sitting senator get away with calling a black man a monkey? And what’s the difference?

Breed, li’l ones, breed You can donate $20.01 to Jim Webb, the Sen. George Allen’s opponent. The 1¢ is to mark the contribution as being from the blogosphere.

The Daily Show tackles Sen. Allen (thanks, Manoj):

The slur, in case you haven’t seen it:

Manish, shouldn’t at least one of your posts be labeled the macaca fracacas (fracas)? Seriously, what caca, Senator Allen.
