The invisible hand

Guess who once ran an ad with an ominous-looking flask pouring chemicals over the Indian countryside? Full ad after the jump.

Interesting, to say the least. I guessed the company correctly going in to the fold - but was temporarily stumped by the ad’s vintage.
My guess now is it’s from the 1956-60 period when India’s population was known to have crossed 400 million; the 1961 census count revealed it to be 439.2 M; 1951 was 361 M.
Also, judging by the look of it, I would guess this copy is from Readers’ Digest.
Like that eerie PIA ad from ‘79 : http://11sep.info/images/11sep-le_point.gif. Wonder if one should peruse the pages of magazine ads for fore warning of future disasters.
creepy… has me thinking of a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds song:
“You’ll see him in your nightmares, you’ll see him in your dreams
He’ll appear out of nowhere but he ain’t what he seems
You’ll see him in your head, on the TV screen
And hey buddy, I’m warning you to turn it off
He’s a ghost, he’s a god, he’s a man, he’s a guru.
You’re one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan
Designed and directed by his red right hand.”
“A HAND IN THINGS TO COME.”
Where did you find that image?
