Zakaria on ‘Daily Show’
Fareed Zakaria went on the Daily Show and scoffed mightily at the neocon view of the world, strange given his early support for the Iraq war.
Plan A was you hold elections in Iraq, in Gaza, in Lebanon. And out of this process will emerge the George Washingtons, the Thomas Jeffersons, the James Madisons of the Middle East, and they would debate issues like church and state, private rights… So we’re onto plan B: you elect fanatical religious thugs on either side and they start killing each other, and then they don’t kill us. So in a sense, it’s working.

I dont understand why FZ supported the Iraq invasion in the first place. He seems too much of a pragmatist to fall for that crap.
like rats fleeing a sinking ship (or however that saying goes)….
Zakaria is pragmatic, of the opportunist kind. He was born into one of India’s most powerful family. His father, Rafiq Zakaria, was very close to Indira Gandhi, even during the emergency.
When at Yale, he joined the Skull and Bones Society, and followed that by becoming a disciple [by choice and with much conviction] of Sm Huntington at Harvard.
Post Harvard, he was mentored by none other than Kissinger, with who Zakaria still remains very close.
In sum, If Zakaria is anything but an opportunist Neo-Con, then Cheney is Aishwarya Rai.
