Make that four..or you ought to change the handle you post under to the one you've used for the last comment...the former sounds like a bong name, which in fact I thought it really was!

umm...ignore the earlier comment...Sorry!

Pray tell what Live'08 is...

My condolences to his family and you, Manish.

When Toco was shown a ball, he wasn’t able to differentiate between the word ‘ball’ and ’round’.

WTF!! It's robot..!! Not supposed to be able to differentiate between the two...

Should we now brace ourselves for repeated references to your 'buddy' Kavita Pillay? ;-)

Awesome stuff, Team Brown !!

I think he 'should' be a minister soon..!

Not necessarily. Noor is a common last name in the Middle East too, isn't it?

This looks funny....

Actually Gandhi never existed...

Enough with the Tiger kefuffle coverage, Manish !

How do you know Parag?

LOL ! Good one... and not too far from the Punjabi proununciation.

Arey wah! Kaare koi, bhare koi!!

How do you do it?? Gather 'desi' stories and news from sites as disparate as The New Yorker and some site with themes for freakin' KDE??

Came across this while randomly browsing through YouTube and this post seemed apropos to share it.

Shades of Lysistrata ??

I think I'm going to buy a Nano just to spite people like the author of this op/ed piece!

I quite expected this would happen.

Ah, the search for the ever elusive middle path!

all the problems being talked about here - corporal punishment, duty and obligation, a regimen dictated by parental ambition, peer pressure in education etc. - at a lesser level, these are the solutions being pushed by the toronto report - a regimen driven off scholarly pursuits, disciplinary power etc.

Only a desi-related blog would need to parenthetically specify, for its audience, the sarcastic nature of a post!

What's with desi people hogging so much of news coverage in Chicago these last few days.. first Anu Solanki, then that crazy man who burnt his family alive and now this..

Heh.. Getty lists Swaran Singh as the Pakistani Foreign Affairs Minister...

Actually, Haora is in West Bengal.

Great find.. how do you locate this stuff, Manish?

Thanks for clarifying this !

umm..how is this (and the previous story) a 'desi' story? Can't discern any desi-ness in either, unless the company is desi-owned.

Very apt poem. Thanks, Manish!

Correction for the title of the post: should read "..is an Indophile"

Is it the end of your stay in India then?

The only words that come to mind are: Mera Bharat Mahan

And here's an interesting bit of trivia: Of the 514 current MPs, 125 have open criminal charges against them, with 14 members being under investigation for murder.

Nice pics, Manish.

They bring back a lot of memories, specially that shot of the station at Barakhamba Road. How I wish we'd had the metro back when I was in high school and didn't have to use those rusty DTC busses!

Plus Delhi is in for a lot more facelifts for the Asian Games, if they aren't postponed or something of the sort. The authorities seem to be pitifully behind the deadlines as far as the infrastructure is concerned.

I can't believe you bought into the Shantaram cult!!

Incidentally your post was picked up by Salon..

Hey.. you're famous, Manish!!

What on earth are mangosteens? Mini mangoes?

Oops, didn't read Shivam's post. By the way, that is 256 Kbps!

Don't you have AirTel in Mumbai yet? AirTel rocks in Delhi. Unlimited access and download bandwith for Rs. 999/- Excellent service with almost zero downtime.
And the speeds are pretty good too. I get about 50 kBps at night, sometimes even more. One ripped DVD takes about 5-6 hrs to download. What else does one need?!

Kudos to you, Shivam for fighting the good fight! All I can say at the moment is WTF!!??!!

Manish,

Not sure if you're aware of the strong undercurrent of animosity/mutual jealousy/plain craziness between the Mumabi and New Delhi mainstream bloggers.. but bring up the issue in any Bloggers' Meet and you're sure to touch a few raw nerves. You should probably do a riff on it in a future post..

YADB - Yet Another Desi Blog??

Actually I had thought it was going to be YADD - Yet Another Desi Dotcom..

One of these days, you have to let us know the raison d'etre behind a seperate blog...

But all the best and I'll be adding this to blogroll...
